East Orange (NJ)hile far smaller than Ethiopian communities in other American cities such as Washington D.C, New York's Ethiopian community is scattered around the city and its suburbs, with clusters around Harlem, the Bronx, and the New Jersey suburbs—in each of which there are Ethiopian Orthodox churches that serve as community hubs for many. Amharic, the main national language, serves as a lingua franca for Ethiopian New Yorkers with other mother tongues.
