Greenwich Villageakota speakers may have been living in and around New York City for some time. In the last few years, as a joint effort of the American Indian Community House, the Language Conservancy and New York University’s Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, an intensive Lakota Language Weekend (held at NYU) has brought speakers and learners together. Tiokasin Ghosthorse—a member of the Cheyenne River Lakota Nation of South Dakota—has long hosted the Manhattan-based First Voices Radio.
